'Tekken 7: Fated Retribution' Producer Blames South Korean Ratings Board for Leak
Last week, several screenshots from Bandai Namco's upcoming fighting game "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" leaked online. As a response, the company has released the images officially, and the game's producer has expressed his views on the matter.
Producer Katsuhiro Harada first got wind of the leak when a Twitter user attached an image of the character select menu that was circulating online in South Korea and elsewhere. The leak originated from a deleted Ruliweb thread, but Harada seems to know for certain who was behind it.
"Before we export [a game], we have to submit the data to a ratings board that's connected to the South Korea[n] government," Harada tweeted in response, as translated by Kotaku. "However, what actually happens is that every time even though it's confidential information, the ratings board leaks info to the media. This ratings board is the worst."
Harada's choice word, "saitei," has many meanings, all of them not good. Harada may be jumping to conclusions here, but this isn't the first time that the body has been pointed to as the source of leaks. The South Korean ratings board was also blamed for having revealed "Gravity Rush's" release to Sony's PlayStation 4. The same thing happened to "Limbo" for Xbox One.
The "Tekken" producer, however, has since deleted his tweet and acknowledged in another tweet that replying to the tweet with the leaked image only boosted its circulation online.
In addition to the character select screen, the leak included some images showing new costumes for certain fighters. The leak turned out to be authentic as shortly thereafter Bandai Namco released official images showing the new default costumes of Paul Phoenix, Hwoarang, Steve Fox, Devil Jin, and Alisa Bosconovitch.
"Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" also showcased the new costumes in a new trailer (above). The fighting game will be available in Japanese arcades in the summer.
