'Tekken 7' News: Big Announcement Coming July 7
To commemorate the game's 20th anniversary, the "Tekken" franchise is announcing something major on July 7, Tuesday, for its latest game in the series, "Tekken 7." Bandai Namco, the game's publisher took to Twitter recently to tease that something big is happening. The translated tweet says: "On Tuesday, July 7, 2015, there will be a major announcement from the Tekken project, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Please look forward to it. #Tekken7."
"Tekken" is a video game franchise that features 3D characters. It was one of the first fighting games that were rendered in 3D. Although it is not as popular as the other games in the genre, such as "Street Fighter," especially in North America, it remains extremely popular in Japan, most especially its arcade version.
The latest game in the series, "Tekken 7" had a limited arcade release in Japan last February, and a wider release to other countries in March. This is the ninth installment in the series, and it is also first game of the series which uses the Unreal Engine 4.
Since its arcade only release, fans have been waiting for the release date of the game's console version. So far, the game has periodically introduced new characters to its line-up. While some reports speculate that the July 7 announcement may be a new character or more, other reports are saying that it may be the release date for the console version.
The likelihood of there being a new character announcement, said the report, is less possible because Bandai Namco is not known for making such a big fuss about such announcements.
One other possibility is that Bandai may reveal a "Tekken vs. Street Fighter" as a follow up the 2012 crossover brawler game, but given that the announcement used "Tekken 7" branding, rather than just the generic "Tekken" brand, it may not be likely as well.
In any case, fans don't need to wait that long as the announcement is just a few days away.
