'Tekken 7' VR Support Update: Senior Game Designer Dispels Earlier Rumors, Teases Game's VR
Since Bandai Namco announced that "Tekken 7" will have PlayStation VR features, rumors of what this could be has spread like wildfire among its fans and followers. Turns out, these rumors are wrong, according to "Tekken 7's" senior game designer.
Michael Murray, "Tekken 7's" senior game designer, talked to Wired about the rumors and teased what VR for the game really means.
When Bandai Namco said "Tekken 7" would support VR, fans were quick to speculate that this would mean "pummelling each other in first person." This idea was taken as brilliant by some but was considered to be terrible by others.
There were also rumors of the new game being like "Punch Out," where players punch each other, but these are not true and are really a misconception. Murray said they are not going to do that in "Tekken 7."
He added that people like "Tekken's" core gameplay just the way it is and didn't see a way for VR to enhance "Tekken," bring it to a new level, or make it any better than it is right now.
"The only hints we could probably give is that Tekken is ultimately all about the characters," Murray told Wired. "You want to see the cool characters, the cute female characters like Lucky Chloe, and we have all kinds of customisation for them and they have all these cool techniques that are motion captured.... something that would allow people to enjoy the game in that aspect maybe is about all we can say."
So in short, Bandai Namco's plan for "Tekken 7's" VR is more appreciative in nature, "rather than beating up the game's roster," according to Wired.
Bandai Namco announced VR for "Tekken 7" in October during the Paris Games Week. The company said then that the feature would be arriving with the game when it releases on Sony's PlayStation 4.
