Tennessee Titans NFL Trade, Roster Rumors: Johnathan Cyprien to Miss Several Weeks Due to Injured Hamstring
The Tennessee Titans just couldn't walk away with a victory against the Oakland Raiders at home last Sunday, but they're certainly going to be ready for their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 17.
Unfortunately, they will have to face their American Football Conference (AFC) South rivals without starting strong safety Johnathan Cyprien.
The Titans have announced that Cyprien will be on the shelf for a few weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter of their 26–16 loss to the Raiders.
"Fortunately we have some depth at that position, with Curtis Riley as well," Raiders head coach Mike Mularkey said during a press conference. "We have some depth there. That is one of the positions we kept for special teams, so we have some guys who can step in and have some experience," he added.
Cyprien had seven tackles before he left the field and he played 55 of 66 defensive snaps. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jaguars after they selected him in the second round of the 2013 draft. He signed a four-year, $25-million deal with the Titans last March, and he would have loved to play against his former team on Sunday.
Da'Norris Searcy will start at strong safety while Cyprien recovers, and he shouldn't have any problem filling in since he used to be their full-time starter at the position in the past two seasons. Aside from Searcy, the Titans also have Brynden Trawick and Curtis Riley on the roster.
Meanwhile, Mularkey also revealed that Tye Smith's status for Sunday's game is still unclear after he broke his hand during the season opener, but LeShaun Sims is expected to suit up.
Sims missed the first game of the season with a groin injury and rookie Adoree' Jackson started in his place.
