'Terminator 6' News: Director James Cameron Reveals Original Cast to Return

The next "Terminator" movie is starting to take shape as James Cameron comes back to direct. He also confirmed that other important pioneer characters is set to return.

The "Terminator" movie franchise has had five movies released in its timeline that stretched from 1984 to 2015. The first two movies were directed by Cameron. It was likewise confirmed that Terminator actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as well as Linda Hamilton will also return.

According to several reports, Cameron confirmed the addition of Schwarzenegger and Hamilton during a private event. The director said: "As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it's going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she's become return."

Schwarzenegger is the titular character who is a cybernetic android disguised as a human that was first tasked to eliminate Hamilton's character named Sarah Connor. Later in the movie franchise, Sarah bore a child named John – the future leader of the Resistance.

"There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn't an example of that for women," Cameron added.

In the current times, seeing women actors taking on roles in action-packed films are nothing new. However, there are still very few films where the focus of the story is a gun-wielding female lead. Even more so, it was even rarer back in 1984 when Hamilton played a strong character who was a member of the Resistance targeted by a cyborg assassin.

Meanwhile, aside from its pioneer cast members, the film production will also enlist new faces and they will, in fact, become significant parts of the upcoming film.

As far as the plot is concerned, the only detail confirmed was that the story will include a mix of "characters from the future and the present."

According to Cameron: "We're starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story." He added: "There will be mostly new characters, but we'll have Arnold and Linda's characters to anchor it."
