Terra Nova Fox TV Premiere: Promises to Deliver More Punch Than 'Lost'
The highly anticipated Terra Nova, Fox's new fall drama filled with time travel and dinosaurs, premieres with a two hour episode tonight (Sep. 26) and promises to deliver a movie-like experience on TV.
A project with Steven Speilberg's name attached to it as one of the shows many producers, Terra Nova is boasting one of the largest network television show budgets ever, averaging $4 million per episode. Due to the high cost of production a pilot was skipped and FOX called for 13 episodes in hopes the show would be a success.
Terra Nova will be packed with movie quality special effects and CGI. The show will also have people walking with the dinosaurs while weaving an intricate detailed story line.

The show is a hybrid of the classic 70s "Land of the Lost" mixed with the cult classic and highly successful "Lost."
In this way the show is able to target audiences of all ages by tapping into the nostalgia factor of "Land of the Lost," CGI realistic dinosaurs for younger viewers, and intense action sequences with a plot twisted story for the older viewers.
Featuring a cast of relative unknowns, the main focal point will be on the character development and plot of the Shannon family who will be uncovering the secrets of their new prehistoric home along with the viewers.
Living on Earth in the year 2149 A.D., the planet is on the brink of extinction due to overpopulation and lack of human resources. In an almost gloomy Blade Runner like world, families are even persecuted for having more than two children.
Scientists then invent a one way time travel machine and begin sending groups of people 85 million years into the past to a prehistoric Cretaceous Period Earth where humans have a second chance at civilization of joining the Terra Nova Colony.
Originally scheduled to premiere in May, it was pushed back due to incomplete visual effects. However, Terra Nova held a special screening of the first episode at San Diego's Comic-Con International on July 23.
