Terrell Owens Joins Tim Tebow Debate
Terrel Owens sounded off about the NFL’s up and coming quarterbacks while spectators focused on the status of the free agent’s career.
Owens acknowledged young Quarterbacks Cam Newton and Tim Tebow’s talent. He told NFL networks that Newton is more talented than Tebow.
“Cam Newton is amazing," said Owens of the Carolina Panthers quarterback. "He's getting praised, but I guarantee you if Tebow was doing what Cam was doing, he'd be all over billboards. He'd be on every commercial. He'd be all over the place."
However, Owens could not deny the appeal of Tebow, the second-year Denver Broncos’ quarterback. The veteran wideout said he applauds Tebow’s spiritual side.
“I admire Tim's faith in God," Owens said. "You can't deny that he's a blessed individual.”
Owens’ also commented on Tebow’s first game as a starting quarterback against Miami. He said Tebow did not give up during a tough game, and that it was a testament to his faith and ability to be a good quarterback.
“To go through what he went through the first three quarters, 55-plus minutes of that game (Sunday's 18-15 overtime victory over the Dolphins). Everyone was like, 'oh it's over,' but you can never really count out a guy with so much faith and determination, and he showed that,” Owens told NFL networks. “He even showed that the game before when he almost came in and won that game. That in itself shows you he's a gamer."
Owens also mentioned that he is just as confident in his ability to return successfully to the game.
"I've been in this situation before,” Owens said. “I just need an opportunity to show what I can do and I think everyone knows what I can do. I could have played last week if someone would have signed me, that's how confident that I am.”
