Tesla Semi Truck Rumors: Electric Truck Allegedly Spotted in California
Elon Musk has pegged October to be the month for Tesla to reveal their new electric semi, but he may not have meant it to be this early. A truck with what looks very much like the futuristic design teased by Musk earlier has been spotted as it was being transported in California.
Some of the surprises of Tesla's planned electric semi truck unveiling on Oct. 26 may have just been leaked beforehand. The truck, referred to as "beast" by the company founder, has been spotted in a rarely visited part of California, as first shared on the Tesla Reddit community.
The Reddit post, now restored after being deleted, shows what looks like a sleek, futuristic semi truck with no exhaust vents that has been photographed on top of a transport truck, with its wind deflector placed nearby.
The location of the photo appears to be the Inyokern Airport in California, according to Teslarati. The small airstrip lies about 150 miles north of Tesla's Design Center, and it is known as a testing ground for the company.
It was at this same airstrip that the P85D was first seen three years ago, as well.
The truck alleged to be Tesla's electric semi was seen on top of another truck, presumably for transporting this prototype around. The model's wind deflector is also seen at the far left side.
Wind deflectors are installed on a semi truck to give it a more aerodynamic profile, especially when there's a boxy container sitting behind the cabin. The difference with this one, however, is the lack of exhaust stacks that typically protrude up from behind the cabin and just barely covered by the wind deflector.
If this truck is indeed Tesla's, this could be the first sighting of the company's electric semi truck model that's supposed to be revealed on Oct. 26. The event was previously announced by Elon Musk himself, after showing a teaser image of the upcoming electric truck that looks very similar to the one just spotted on that airstrip in California.
