Texas Judge Beats Daughter In Viral Video: No Charges Filed (VIDEO)
The Texas judge who was seen brutally beating his daughter in a video that recently went viral will not face criminal charges, according to officials.
Judge William Adams admitted he was the person seen beating his then 16-year-old daughter, but district attorneys will not pursue criminal charges against the judge because too much time has passed since the incident, officials said.
Adams has temporarily resigned from the bench after the video sparked outrage nationwide. It is unclear if he will return to the courts.
Adams faces a judicial conduct probe for his behavior in the video. It is unclear if he will be able to keep his current job after the results of the probe.
Adams isn’t scheduled to be up for re-election for three more years.
The judge has not admitted any wrong-doing in the wake of the video’s release.
"No, in my mind I haven't done anything wrong other than discipline my child after she was caught stealing,” Adams told KZTV. “And I did lose my temper, but I've since apologized."
The video, which has been viewed more than 5 million times, was posted by the judge’s now 23-year-old daughter to draw attention to the abuse, according to reports.
“My father’s harassment was getting really bad, so I decided to finally publish the video I had been sitting on for seven years,” Hillary Adams told KRIS.
The abuse went on without consequence because of the judge’s position of power in the community, she said.
