Texas Pastor Challenges Congregation to Have More Sex
A Texas evangelical pastor has highlighted the importance of sex for married Christians, calling it God's superglue for marriage.
Ed Young of the Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas, is preaching more sex to his congregation. He and his wife, Lisa, will be participating a 24-hour experiment to underline the importance of regular sex between married Christian couples. They call it the "Sexperiment,” which also the name of their latest book.
During the sexperiment, Ed and Lisa will spend 24 hours together in bed on the roof of the Fellowship Church. In what they call a "Bed-In" on the Sexperiment website, beginning Friday night, the couple will hold bedside interviews through Skype, answer relationship questions and teach about God's purpose for intimacy in marriage. They themselves will not be having sex during the bed-in.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Young says that God said we are meant to make love within the beauty of and covenant of marriage.
"The role of sex in a Christian marriage is the superglue that holds it together," Young said.
In the couples' book “Sexperiment,” they challenge other married couples to have sex everyday for a week straight. After completing the challenge, Young advises that couples will be able to experience the power of marriage done God's way, according to The Guardian.
His wife, Lisa Young, who co-authored "Sexperiment," told CNN that the church has been silent on sex for too long, which wasn't intended by God.
"He certainly is the author and creator of sex, so why would we not, in the context of church, speak about something that He was not bashful about?" Mrs. Young said.
"We believe very strongly that the family unit is the number one place to talk about sex and the church is the second best place to talk about sex."
Mrs. Young feels that sex is more important than most people imagine and that people don't think deeply enough about sex, according to The Houston Chronicle.
"Sex is not just a physical thing. It's a spiritual, emotional thing ... that God created," Mrs. Young said.
Young is also the author of "The Ten Commandments of Marriage" and "Rating Your Dating While Waiting for Mating" and reportedly has asked his congregation to invigorate their sex lives in the past.
Young is also the son of Homer Edwin Young, leader of the Second Baptist Houston church, which is one of the largest churches in the U.S.
