Texas Planned Parenthood Facility to Be Built Next to Adoption Agency

The nation's largest abortion provider Planned Parenthood recently announced that it will be placing a health center next to an adoption facility.

Planned Parenthood of North Texas will be placing a center next to the Fort Worth office of the Gladney Center for Adoption, a 125-year-old adoption agency.

Jennifer Lanter, director of outreach for Gladney, told The Christian Post that she was "very surprised to hear this news."

"The Gladney Center is uniquely positioned to educate our community about the miracle of adoption," said Lanter.

"If a woman is considering terminating her pregnancy and sees the Gladney Center for Adoption, this could be an opportunity for Gladney to help someone who needs our help the most."

Lanter explained that while no official connections existed between Gladney and Planned Parenthood, the adoption agency did accept referrals from the organization in the past.

"As a leading adoption agency, we work with multiple referral agencies, including pregnancy centers, churches, medical facilities and Planned Parenthood," said Lanter.

"We expect to continue to work with all these entities going forward. We remain true and committed to our mission."

As Gladney prepares for its Planned Parenthood neighbor, the Texas construction company that was contracted to build the facility is experiencing a backlash from religious clients that it has serviced over the years on construction projects.

Churches from many denominations that consider themselves pro-life are asking the DeMoss Company, a Fort Worth-based construction business, to remove their names from an online endorsement list due to the Planned Parenthood project.

Pat Svacina, spokesman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, told CP that upon learning of the project the Diocese asked to be removed from the list of endorsers.

"The Diocese sent correspondence immediately to the DeMoss Company asking the company to remove all reference to the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth on its web site, including the listing of diocesan projects and a reference to the Diocese on its clients list," said Svacina.

"The DeMoss Company [honored] the request immediately."

According to Svacina, DeMoss was the contractor for six projects for the Diocese, including a renovation of St. Patrick Cathedral, Fort Worth in 2001 and the construction of the Good Shepherd Church of Colleyville in 2004.

"It has been seven years since DeMoss last worked for the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth," said Svacina.

"The company has not been selected for projects since 2004 and is not part of the list of contractors available to diocesan entities."

The Planned Parenthood Fort Worth facility will be 19,000 square feet and come at a cost of $6.5 million. It is expected to open sometime next year.

Planned Parenthood of North Texas did not return request for comments by press time.
