Texas venue cancels drag event after video shows 'queens' touching girl
The Starlighter event featured 'Rudolph' cartoon, rainbow flag with '666'
Another video clip recorded by Hansen showed the young child visibly shrink back as a drag queen in all black leather, devil horns and face makeup as the man in drag sings, “Get your tickets to the freak show, baby / Step right up to watch the freak go crazy.”
In response to the video footage, The Starlighter, the San Antonio venue which hosted the drag show, released a statement denying the little girl — whom the venue referred to as “they” — was unattended: “The child in question was never left unattended or in any danger. They are the child of our food vendor that night who was right outside the door. This vendor and their child are very familiar with both staff and queens, and even posted a picture thanking the queens for treating her ‘like a niece’ at the end of the event.”
Due to public reaction, The Starlighter also announced they are canceling all scheduled drag events for the remainder of the year “as a safety measure” after the venue said it was “being bullied and threatened” online.
After the video footage went viral, state State Republican Executive Committeewoman Christin Bentleytweeted the footage is “one of the sickest, most difficult videos to watch of them all.
“And, that is saying something,” added Bently, a self-described Christian “constitutionalist” from Smith County, Texas.
The event was the latest in a string of “family friendly” LGBT-themed events held in the state.
Last month, a group of armed Antifa militants stood guard outside a North Texas bookstore event during a event for so-called transgender awareness week while a popular LGBT activist read books about gender and sexuality to a group of young children and their parents.
Earlier this year, a Dallas gay bar hosted a “family friendly” event called “Drag The Kids To Pride” which offered “limited spots for young performers to take the stage solo, or with a queen of their choosing” and special “mocktails” for guests under 21, according to the description on Eventbrite. In response to that event, Republican Texas Rep. Bryan Slaton said he would introduce legislation to stop what he calls a “disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children” once the next state legislative session gets underway.
