'The Affair' News, Update: Season 2 Teases Heartbreaking Scenes and More Complex Developments

"The Affair," Showtime's critically-acclaimed drama TV series, is now ready to kick off its second season and getting clues from the recent spoiler reports, it appears that the next chapter will be a heavy one.

Citing VCPost.com , it is said that Noah (Dominic West) and Alison (Ruth Wilson) will be facing the consequences of their actions with the former's wife, Helen (Maura Tierney), slowly realizing the disintegration of the man he once knew.

Adding to the mix is Cole (Joshua Jackson), who seems eager to shower Alison with the love and attention. Fans may already know that Cole really wants her back for himself or perhaps he has other plans in mind. Noah, on the other hand, appears to be desperate for her to stay because he has already declared to Helen it's all over for them.

Caught in all this fiasco is Alison, who is feared by many fans to be in the brink of another breakdown. Aside from weighing the intentions of the two men, Alison still has to deal with the tragic death of her son, Gabriel, whose demise is heavily blamed on her by her mother-in-law, Cherry (Mare Winningham).

Because there are rumors about her suicidal tendencies, viewers are already holding their breath that these situations might eventually push Alison to the breaking point.

Another exciting aspect of Season 2 is the added perspectives from Helen and Cole. This was confirmed by creator Sarah Treem, who spoke to Entertainment Weekly during the Television Critics Association's semi-annual press tour together with the cast members.

"We show from different POVs, different parts of their lives and then we'll move to another and it will be three months later and you'll be left to fill in the gaps," Treem told EW.

The new set-up eventually gives the show the freedom to explore deeper into the lives of Cole and Helen.

"By allowing Cole to have an interior life, it allows me to show him in a way that being Noah's recollection or Alison's recollection just doesn't," Jackson chimed in. "It's opened up for me an entirely different world for this character."

However, the show would still remain to feature two perspectives at a time. All of these four perspectives will eventually "funnel together" towards the end of the upcoming season.

"The Affair" Season 2 premieres Oct. 4 on Showtime.
