'The Affair' Season 4 News: 'Shots Fired' Actress Sanaa Lathan Lands Recurring Role
Sanaa Lathan is officially on board Showtime's "The Affair."
Lathan has been tapped to recur on the drama's upcoming season opposite Dominic West, according to reports. The actress will take on the role of Jenelle, a principal of the charter school where Noah (West) works. When they meet for the first time, her tough-as-nails character intrigues him. She also has a lot to prove to her school's administration and faculty, who all believe she does not deserve to be there.
Lathan has appeared in numerous feature films including "Contagion," "Alien vs. Predator" and "American Assassin." Her TV credits include "Nip/Tuck," "Shots Fired," "The Cleveland Show" and "Boss."
She was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award for lead starring in the 2000 film "Love and Basketball" and received a Tony nomination for her performance in "A Raisin in the Sun." Lathan went on to reprise her Broadway role for television.
Filming for "The Affair's" fourth season is still ongoing in Los Angeles and New York. For its previous season, the series pulled in almost 1.5 million viewers each episode — comparable to Showtime's longest-running scripted program, "Shameless."
Since its debut in 2014, "The Affair" has won three Golden Globes, including best drama series. The show centers on the psychological and emotional effects of an affair that completely ruined two marriages. It also touches on a crime that brings the characters back in each other's lives, as the story is told through different perspectives.
The previous installment explored the fallout of Noah's release from jail. His struggles with relationships worsened as the ghost of his past mistakes continue to haunt him. Alison (Ruth Wilson) and Helen (Maura Tierney) reprised their lovelorn roles, while actor Brendan Fraser shook things up when he joined the show as John, Noah's former prison guard.
The fourth season of "The Affair" premieres 2018 on Showtime.
