'The Americans' Season 5 Spoilers: Paige Joins the Family Business While Juggling Her Feelings for Matthew
Fans have been waiting for the return of "The Americans" for nearly a year and are undoubtedly anxious about what is to come. Thankfully, the fifth season of "The Americans" recently premiered in New York, where a handful of cast members attended the event and talked about some plot points.
As the trailer previously showed viewers, the upcoming season will focus on Paige Jennings (Holly Taylor) more as she enters her parents' world of espionage while juggling her romantic life as well. These two aspects of her life coincide when it comes to dealing with her neighbor and love interest, Matthew Beeman (Daniel Flaherty).
When asked by The Hollywood Reporter whether Paige's interest in Matthew is driven by her feelings for him or by her possible career as a spy, Taylor thinks that "it's a little bit of both."
"I think even in season one, she was attracted to Matthew Beeman, so there's definitely some of that in there," she continued. "But I think also she kind of sees it as like maybe I could get away with doing this because I can use him as a source and I can get my parents to support me. But they don't really see it that way, so it's very complicated for her."
Paige is definitely on the road to becoming a Russian spy like her parents. This much was revealed in the season 5 official trailer, which saw Paige undergoing training with her mother, Elizabeth (Keri Russell). However, Philip (Matthew Rhys) remains unsure about the decision.
As for Paige's younger brother, Henry (Keidrich Sellati), he will also have his fair share of screen time as his parents become increasingly involved with his life. Henry still does not know of his folks' true professions, but that will not stop Philip and Elizabeth from getting to know their son more.
"The Americans" season 5 will premiere on Tuesday, March 7, 10 p.m. EST on FX.
