Bachelorette New Season 2015: To Have 2 Bachelorettes; Sean Lowe Calls Decision 'Disgusting'
"The Bachelorette" is getting a new twist on its upcoming season. During the After the Final Rose on Monday, March 9, "The Bachelor" host Chris Harrison announced that both Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson will be passing out roses on the upcoming 11th season of "The Bachelorette."
The audience in the studio collectively gasped upon learning of the new development. Nilsson appeared to be excited for the "amazing opportunity," but Bristowe seemed to be less enthusiastic about the idea.
"I think what went through my mind was, 'Well, that's not ideal,'" said Bristowe.
After the announcement, fans of the show and former "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" stars took to social media to react to the "Bachelorette" twist.
Andi Dorfman tweeted, "I'm gonna keep my mouth shut right now. I'm just going to be politically incorrect and mean no offense by this but I'm #TeamKaitlyn."
Sean Lowe also took to Twitter and wrote, "Judging by the hundreds of tweets I'm seeing, no likes this duel bachelorette idea. Also, clmgiudici thinks it's disgusting."
In his blog post, Lowe elaborated on what he and his wife, Catherine Giudici, really thought about the show's decision to feature two bachelorettes. Lowe was the Season 17 "Bachelor."
"I normally don't speak out about 'The Bachelor'," he wrote. "They've been so awesome to me…Amazingly, I met my wife on that crazy show!"
"I know this show is already awkward and degrading … especially if it's not handled well by the main star," he continued. "I also realize that this is just another reality show. But in a way, it's not. 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette' still have a certain amount of credibility. Why? People watch it because they hope to see people find true love. I'm proof. It happens."
"It's downright degrading for the women...for the two chosen and the women watching at home," Lowe continued. "This move transfers the power back to the men on the show specifically designed for women. As one tweet said, 'Once again, you'll have women competing for the attention of men.'"
"The Bachelorette" Season 11 will premiere on Monday, May 18 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
