The Biblical Obligation to Care for Creation
Dear Editor,
I read Michelle Vu's report ("Evangelical's Global Warming Stance Disturbs Some Christian Leaders") with utter dismay at these leaders, such as Dr. Dobson, who also would not even meet a number of years back with Christians who wanted to discuss the biblical view of stewardship. They have their topics – and worthy ones they are – but they not only fail to understand the biblical obligation to care for ALL of God's creation, they apparently do not appreciate anything other than their burdens for mankind. Yet, as we study God's condemnation by some of the prophets, it included desecration and unfulfilled obligations to the land itself.
I certainly agree with their basic stances on abortion and homosexuality, but redemption includes the whole earth. Our Christian obligation is first of all to lost and hurting mankind, but that does not mean we should be careless and flippant about the rest of creation (as I hear and read so many leaders are).
