'The Big Bang Theory' Moves to Thursdays Beginning November

CBS is shifting "The Big Bang Theory" from Monday to Thursday nights beginning Nov. 2 at 8:00 p.m. EST. It will stay on this new schedule until the season ends in May 2018.

"The Big Bang Theory" previously aired Monday nights since Thursdays on CBS was for NFL's "Thursday Night Football." The schedule freed up when football airings moved to NBC for the next half-season.

Joining "The Big Bang Theory" in its new time schedule will be its spinoff "Young Sheldon," which will air at 8:30 p.m. EST. Taking over Mondays on CBS are "Kevin Can Wait," "Superior Donuts," and the freshmen comedies "9JKL" and "Me, Myself & I."

The network, however, started the new shift this week to less than stellar numbers. CBS last Monday night lost in the ratings with the absence of "The Big Bang Theory," as viewers dropped to more than 50 percent.

"The Big Bang Theory" also lost a small portion of its audience following the premiere of season 11 last September. Viewers apparently found a new show to love and follow in the medical drama "The Good Doctor." It has surpassed the ratings for the comedy series in the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, "The Big Bang Theory" season 11 episode 6 will have Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parson) auditioning as the new Professor Proton. Bob Newhart will reprise his role as Arthur Jeffries, the previous Professor Proton.

Penny (Kaley Cuoco) will watch over the baby of Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Howard (Simon Helberg) as they both need bed rest. Cat Hammons will also guest star as the nurse.

In other news, the stars of "The Big Bang Theory" are branching out behind the camera as producers of new shows. Parsons have "Young Sheldon" and Cuoco will produce and star in the limited series The Flight Attendant." Halberg, on the other hand, will develop "Need to Know," an upcoming spy comedy series for CBS.
