'The Big Bang Theory' Season 11 Spoilers: How New Showrunner Will Impact the Series; Science Guest Stars Teased

As the premiere of "The Big Bang Theory" season 11 draws near, fans can prepare for the potential new chapter in Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy's (Mayim Bialik) life by bracing themselves for some big changes on the show across the board.

As fans know, Steve Molaro stepped down as showrunner this year to focus on the spinoff "Young Sheldon." The gig went to Steve Holland, who was a writer for the show for seven years.

In an interview with Variety, the new showrunner spoke about what he intends to bring to the table come "The Big Bang Theory" season 11, especially going into it with the pressure brought about by the show being around for a while now.

In taking over as showrunner, my least concern is putting my stamp on the show. These characters, over 10 seasons, have honestly grown and changed and taken on a life of their own, and my job here is to honor and protect these characters.

[Show creator Chuck Lorre's] piece of advice was "Don't be afraid to try new things. The worst thing you can do in season 11 in a show is fall back on what's always worked in the past."

Holland believes that there are a lot of stories to tell in "The Big Bang Theory" season 11 considering where the characters are in their lives at the moment. The previous season ended with Sheldon getting down on one knee asking Amy to be his wife.

The new season will immediately reveal her answer and Holland says that at this point, the expectation is that she will agree to marry him. However, things will not be all that smooth from there.

This is because "The Big Bang Theory" season 11 will see the return of Ramona (Riki Lindhome), the girl whose kiss made Sheldon realize she wanted to marry Amy.

Those who are worried that the science side of the show will be left out with all these big developments in the lives of the characters can now ease their minds:

Obviously the proposal at the end of season 10 gave us a lot of energy of things to do going into the new season, but honestly there's just been interesting things going on in the science world of real life that's been really fun to bring into the show. It's nice that we've built out their world a little bit at this point, and we do have some great science guest stars in the first few episodes, too.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 11 premieres Monday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
