'The Blacklist' Season 2 Premiere Date, Spoilers: Paul Reubens to Play Villainous Character in New Season
Several guest stars are set to appear in the new season of "The Blacklist" and among them is Paul Reubens, who is known for playing Pee-Wee Herman.
In an interview with TV Guide, show runner Jon Bokenkamp said that Reubens' role will be far from Pee-Wee Herman.
"He's about the furthest thing from Pee-Wee Herman that you could imagine," said Bokenkamp. "He wears a fabulous yellow turtleneck. He has quite a look."
Reubens will be playing the role of Mr. Vargas, and his mission is to find those who are close to Red Reddington (James Spader) and turn them against him in the most dramatic way that he possibly can. Naturally, fans can assume that Elizabeth Keen will be one of Vargas' targets.
However, it seems as if Keen will be somewhat protected in this season, as according to Entertainment Weekly, Red will go so far to watch over her on this upcoming season that he will think nothing of hiring someone to ensure that she is followed almost constantly.
Given that Red seems to be taking it to extremes to make sure that Keen is safe, could this mean that Red is actually Keen's father?
In an interview with TVLine, Spader said that the first episodes will cover other issues that are relevant to both of them, so it could be a while before viewers find out whether or not Red is Keen's father.
"That story has not been extrapolated on," said Spader to TVLine. "That's something to just let percolate for a bit. Elizabeth Keen has spoken of a memory of being in a fire when she was a child, and somebody pulled her out of that fire. She may be assuming that it's her father, but we've never said whether it's her father or not."
"The Blacklist" Season 2 premieres on Sept. 22 on NBC.
