'The Blacklist' Season 5 Spoilers: Ressler's Crime To Be Revealed

Ressler's (Diego Klattenhoff) secret will come out in the open in the upcoming season of "The Blacklist."

The synopsis for season 5's premiere episode titled "Smokey Putnam" is out, and according to CarterMatt, Ressler will find himself in an awkward situation. If his predicament has something to do with what happened to Laurel Hitchin (Christine Lahti), then the FBI agent is definitely in trouble. Last season, he unwittingly killed Hitchin and asked Henry Prescott (James Carpinello) to clean up after him. However, it is possible that the Bureau has finally discovered the truth. If this happens, Ressler will stand trial. He may lose everything he has worked for.

Meanwhile, Red (James Spader) wants Liz (Megan Boone) to take the lead in an important assignment. He will order her to capture a new Blacklister and deliver him/her to the Task Force. This will be the first assignment that Red and Liz will do together after it has been revealed that they are father and daughter. She has yet to fully get used to the idea that the older man is not only her mentor but her real dad as well.

As for Tom (Ryan Eggold), the promo photos reveal that he will soon reunite with Liz. He, however, will not be in a hurry to fulfill his promise to Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) about giving the mysterious suitcase to his wife.

The photos show that Tom will weigh his options regarding the valise. He is curious to know what it contains. In one of the images, he is revealed to be opening the bag. It has been previously teased that it holds pieces of a skeleton. Red tried to keep the valise away from Liz for a long time. If not for Mr. Kaplan, the others would never have found it buried in the farm where Red hid it. Speculations are rife that the bones may be connected to Liz's mother, Katarina.

"The Blacklist" season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. EDT on NBC.
