'The Crown' Season 2 Air Date, Plot News: Nazi Connection Will Be Explored

"The Crown" isn't just a relationship drama about Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. One episode in the second season, which arrives on Netflix in December, will delve on the royal's connection with the Nazi party.

The said episode will explore the association of the Duke of Windsor, Edward III, with the Nazis, according to Telegraph. It will feature the former King of England while in exile and shortly after he gave up the throne.

It's not a secret among British historians that the Duke of Windsor supported the Nazis as evidenced in photographs of Edward III in the company of Adolf Hitler's men. Recent reports also showed that then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill allegedly ordered to destroy any traces that Edward III and the Nazis plotted to take back the crown from his brother and Queen Elizabeth's father King George VI.

"Season two starts in December and there is a whole episode addressing this question of Hitler and the Windsors and all these subtle points," historian Robert Lacey revealed to a panel that asked if "The Crown" will tackle the Nazis. The question arose from criticisms that "The Crown" season 1 depicted Edward III, whom Alex Jennings portrayed, as an amiable man especially to his niece when history showed differently.

Lacey also released a book about the show. "The Crown: The Official Companion" will hit bookstore shelves on Oct. 17 and it's up for pre-order at online stores.

Meanwhile, "The Crown" creators revealed that the series was originally intended to air on BBC but eventually, Netflix won out because the streaming platform gave the production enough leeway and freedom to develop the story without any constrictions.

"The Crown" researcher Annie Sulzberger also divulged that Churchill's estate wanted to check every script. The family did not want the show to use any of Churchill's words in his widely-revered speeches.

"The Crown" season 3 and 4 are already in development with personalities like Camilla Parker-Bowles and Princess Diana entering the story. The 10 episodes of season 2, on the other hand, will be on Netflix, Friday, Dec. 8, at 3:00 a.m. EST.
