'The Crown' Season 3 Cast News: Olivia Colman Reveals Fears in Playing Queen Elizabeth
Olivia Colman admitted she has fears about playing Queen Elizabeth on "The Crown." Netflix recently announced she will replace Claire Foy as the lead in the drama series for season 3 and 4.
The "Murder on the Orient Express" actress told Radio Times in a video interview that she knew she got the role for months before Netflix made it official. She's glad it has been announced but admitted to the jitters.
"I'm just full of fear because you don't want to be the one who screws it up," Colman said. She revealed she's getting so much support from Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth for "The Crown" season 1 and 2.
Foy won awards and numerous nominations for her role in "The Crown." She was instrumental in convincing Colman to replace her.
"I actually spoke to her on the phone and told her, you have to do it," Foy said. "She's the most extraordinary actress and person in every single way. I love her, so I'm thrilled."
Further casting for "The Crown" season 3 has not been finalized but Colman got excited about the possibility of David Tennant playing her TV husband, Prince Philip. She and the actor previously starred for three seasons in the award-winning series "Broadchurch."
Colman also revealed that filming for "The Crown" season 3 has not started. She's still completing her commitment in the movie "Them That Follow" with Walton Goggins and Kaitlyn Dever.
Meanwhile, the second season of "The Crown" with Foy and Matt Smith (Prince Philip) will launch all 10 episodes on Netflix on Friday, Dec. 9, at 3:00 a.m. EST. This season will cover the period from 1956 to 1963 of the Queen's reign.
"The Crown" creator Peter Morgan has planned a six-season release. Colman will also be replaced with an older actress playing Queen Elizabeth for season 5 and 6. Netflix, however, has not yet renewed the show beyond season 4.
