The Dark Knight Rises: Get First Look at the Batwing (VIDEO FOOTAGE)
Fans and Paparazzi have snagged some footage of the Batwing in action during filming for “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The Batwing is Batman’s infamous flying vehicle and will make its debut in the third installment of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman adaptation films.
You can see the Batwing in action under the 6th Street Bridge in downtown Los Angeles in the video.
The view of the vehicle is slightly obscured by the bridge supports.
The film was taken on September 11.
There have been more clips uploaded to YouTube which show the crew prepping the Batwing earlier that day along with a long-shot of Gary Oldman filming a scene with a Gotham City police car.
"The Dark Knight Rises" hits theaters on July 20, 2012.
This is not the first time the Batwing has made it to the big screen.
In 1989’s Batman, directed by Tim Burton, the superhero pilots the Batwing while battling the Joker, as the notorious villain attempts to release poisonous gas from floats at a Gotham City parade.
Batman, played by Michael Keaton in the film, gathers all the floats together and releases them into space while flying the Batwing into the moon in an infamous scene which causes the night sky to include a bat symbol.
The Batwing returns in 1995’s “Batman Forever” which stars Val Kilmer as Batman this time and is directed by Joel Schumacher.
The vehicle appears a bit flashier in this version sporting neon lights as Batman and his sidekick Robin journey to an island to battle The Riddler and Two-Face.
Christopher Nolan has already adapted Batman’s Batmobile as the Tumbler in “Batman Begins” and allowed the vehicle to morph into the “Batpod” in “The Dark Knight” which is a motorcycle-like means of transportation for the superhero.
In “The Dark Knight Rises,” Nolan will finally bring the Batwing to life.
