'The Dark Tower' Starts Filming, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey Take Main Roles
Stephen King's dark fantasy novel "The Dark Tower" is getting a movie adaptation and it seems like it won't be long until it will be making its way to the big screen. According to a report by Crossmap, the world renowned author announced via his Twitter account that the production for the film version of "The Dark Tower" has already started by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
"The thing is, it's been a long trip from the books to the film," King stated upon the commencement of the production of the film, as noted in IGN. "I'm delighted, and I'm a little bit surprised," he added.
King refers to his series novel as his "magnum opus." It's a book which he created with a world that connects together many of his other novels. And since "The Dark Tower" is a series of books, the first film will be covering just the first book in the series.
Aside from the announcement about the start of the production, not much is known about the film yet. However, reports did confirm already the stars that will be taking the main roles. According to another report by IGN, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be playing as the gunslinger Roland Deschain and the man in black Walter Padick, respectively.
Writer and producer Akiva Goldman stated during the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January that Elba is the perfect actor to portray the role of Roland. In the same way, director Nikolaj Arcel also shared that McConaughey is the best option to play as the man in black, describing the actor as someone "who can do anything." He said that it's exactly what he feels about the character Walter Padick—someone who could do anything. Aside from the two, Entertainment Weekly also reported that Jackie Earle Haley is in the talks to play as the vampire leader Sayre.
"The Dark Tower" is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 17, 2017.
