'The Elder Scrolls: Legends' Release Date: Bethesda Confirms Delay, Gives Rise to New Rumor of a Possible 2016 Launch

Bethesda's "The Elder Scrolls: Legends" will not be coming out this year, as the game is still undergoing some polishing. No new release date has been announced, but a tweet hints at the game possibly coming in 2016.

Someone asked Peter Hines, Bethesda's vice president of marketing, for an update regarding "The Elder Scrolls: Legends," specifically if it was going to release as scheduled. Bethesda had previously stated the game would release in 4Q 2015.

"@tal_elmar i think it's safe to say it's not coming in the next 15 days," tweeted Hines in response.

The curious fan came back to Hines with a follow-up question. The fan asked if the delay meant the game was being polished to which Hines replied:

"@tal_elmar that's the idea. (I'm playing it right now :-)"

Although the brief Twitter exchange confirms Bethesda is hard at work in making the game better at day one, it did not include any information on a new release date. But the media has been quick to put two and two together and now the rumor is that "The Elder Scrolls: Legends" will be releasing next year. Bethesda has not confirmed this yet, though.

Announced earlier this year at the E3 conference, "The Elder Scrolls: Legends" has been slim on updates. Bethesda had other games to attend to like "Fallout 4" and "Dishonored 2" and seemed to have pushed the free-to-play strategy card game to the back burner, at least in terms of updating fans and followers about it. The upcoming game is the latest addition to "The Elder Scrolls" series. It was supposed to come out before the year ended on the iPad and PC.

Little else is known about the game, except for the characters that appeared in a previously released trailer. The game has been pegged against another card-based game "Hearthstone."
