'The Elder Scrolls Online' Free Play on Xbox One: Xbox Live Gold Subscribers Get Free Play and Exclusive Deals This Weekend

ZeniMax and Microsoft are partnering to bring "The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited" to the Xbox One for free for a limited time this weekend.

In a post at on their respective websites, ZeniMax and Microsoft announced the promo on Monday, Dec. 7. During the promo, players will get to explore the continent of Tamriel, "no strings attached."

The promo is part of Xbox Live Gold's Free Plays so only Xbox Live Gold members will be able to participate in it. To start playing, subscribers need to go to the Gold Member area and from there download the game directly from the Xbox store. "The Elder Scrolls Online" free play for Xbox Live Gold subscribers will start on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 9 a.m. PT and end on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Should they feel inclined to, players will also be able to buy crowns, which are in-game currencies, at a discounted rate as follows:

  • 1,500 crown packs will be 25% off
  • 3,000 crown packs will be 33% off
  • 5,500 crown packs will be 40% off

Players participating in the Free Play Weekend will also get a chance to win $1 million in Bethesda's giveaway, #MillionReasonsToPlay.

In addition to free play and a chance to win a million dollars, participants will also be able to buy the game at 60 percent off its regular price. Not only that, players will also get to play where they left off from the weekend free play as their character, progress, game score, and achievements will carry over to their newly purchased copy.

The promo is also available for the PC and Mac. As for the PlayStation 4, ZeniMax stated it is currently working with Sony to bring this free play opportunity to its console owners in the future.

"The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited" came out in April 2014 for the PC and in June this year for the Xbox One and PS4. Since its release, ZeniMax has also released The Imperial City and Orsinium DLCs.
