'The Exorcist' News: Fox Greenlights Horror Series
"The Exorcist" series will be a modern-take on the original story written by William Blatty.
"The Exorcist" is one of the new shows that have been greenlighted by Fox that will debut for TV's 2016-2017 season, Comingsoon reports.
It was in January this year when it was announced that a small screen version of the global horror movie "The Exorcist" is being developed for a small screen version. In March, the planned small screen adaptation of the movie started taking shape as the cast was announced, with Ben Daniels and Alfonso Herrera named as initial members of the cast, as per TV Line.
Daniels is slated to breathe life to play the role of Father Marcus, who is described by Fox as "the intense holy warrior carrying out an occupation that the church no longer acknowledges in public." On the other hand, Herrera will play the role of Father Tomas, a warm, selfless and compassionate leader of a small church.

A separate Comingsoon report says that a few days later, Fox also announced that it has included actress Geena Davis in the cast of "The Exorcist." Together with the announcement is a description of her character, Angela Rance, in the horror series.
"Naturally beautiful, regal and proud but weighed down by stress, Angela Rance does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling. She can't help but think, however, if perhaps her nightmares about a demon are a sign of what's wrong," goes the description of Davis' "The Exorcist" character.
"The Exorcist" series will be a modern-take on the original story written by William Blatty, which hit the bookstores in 1971. The book was eventually adapted into a movie and became one of the biggest horror blockbusters of all time when it was shown in 1973 and gave actress Linda Blair her share of stardom.
The pilot of the series is written by Jeremy Slater. It will be directed by Rupert Wyatt. Apart from "The Exorcist," Fox has also picked up "Lethal Weapon," "A.P.B.," "Pitch," "Making History," and "The Mick," which are all expected to debut in the 2016-17 season of television.
