'The Flash' Movie News: Possible Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller Says Barry Allen Will Be The Flash

The big-screen adaptation of "The Flash" isn't coming to theaters until 2018, but the directors attached to the film already revealed how they intend to treat the character in the movie. Phil Lord and his creative partner Chris Miller believe that "their Flash is going to be Barry Allen" as opposed to Wally West.

Lord revealed this during an interview for Hippojuice, a Florida-based podcast.

"We're trying to break a story. It's interesting, because there's a really popular TV show out there, and we're trying to carve out space for the movie that's apart from them. I think we're doing alright… I believe (our Flash) is going to be Barry Allen … It's going to be its own (thing, apart from the TV show) -- we're more trying to stick with the cinematic universe," he explained.

"It really is its own thing, and kind of a stand-alone movie. We're just trying to think of the best story. I think you guys will like it, it's kind of a different take on superhero stuff," Lord added.

Given this, fans of "The Flash" may be a bit disappointed to see that instead of having another "Flash" featured in the movie, it will be the same "Flash" as the one in the TV show. The TV show currently has Grant Gustin starring, while the star for movie has been identified already -- Ezra Miller.

According to another report in Tech Times, it is not yet known what Lord and Miller mean by "a different take." The TV show already created its own universe and is immensely popular, thus most fans would have expected the movie to cover a character that was not as familiar as Barry Allen. The report says that the character of The Flash as a speedster lends well to a "lighthearted" treatment. However, using Barry Allen may also indicate a more serious treatment of the character, if they were to follow the comics storyline closely.

Lord and Miller as also said to be working on the "Spider-Man" solo film for Sony Pictures.
