'The Flash' season 2 premiere: 'The Man Who Saved Central City' features new villains, speedsters

"The Flash" is set to return next month with new classic villains and Barry's continuing struggle to come to terms with Eddie's death in the first season.

In the pilot season of The Flash, police officer Eddie sacrificed his life for Barry and the Central City, but the hero is finding it difficult to forgive himself for what happened. When The Flash comes back for season 2, a new meta human will stir chaos in the city in the form of Atom Smasher, who is played by Adam Copeland, according to the International Business Times (IBT).

Another feature worth noting about season 2 is the introduction of the multiple earth concept. This means the next episodes will feature several timelines running simultaneously, the report adds. Season 2 of The Flash will begin months after the Singularity attacked the Central City, Three If By Space reports.

"Picking up months after the Singularity attacked Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) is still struggling to forgive himself for Eddie's death," the IBT quotes the synopsis for Episode 2. "Concerned about putting his friends in danger, Barry has pushed everyone away and has chosen to protect the city on his own."

However, Atom Smasher will enter the picture and Iris (Candice Patton) will help Barry realize that Central City needs him, but he also needs to allow his friends to help him carry out his mission.

The pilot episode of The Flash season 2, which is titled "The Man Who Saved Central City," will also highlight Cisco's (Carlos Valdes) journey in discovering more about his meta-human capabilities.

The Flash season 2 will also bring two new speedsters in the persons of Jay Garrick (Teddy Spears) and Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale). The main hero will need to muster up all his strength and support to face and triumph over his new enemy Zoom, the report details.

The Flash season 2 will begin airing on Oct. 8 on The CW.
