'The Flash' Season 2 Spoilers: Zolomon's Love for Caitlin Is Genuine, Identity of Man in Iron Mask to Be Revealed
Hunter Zolomon's (Teddy Sears) love for Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) is for real, and whatever else he has lied about, whoever he has played games on, that is the one thing that remains true. When his background story is told, something in what happened to him will click into place and explain why he needs Caitlin and why he loves her.
Avid viewers of CW's "The Flash" are up for some big revelations in the upcoming episode of the series on April 19 at 8 p.m. entitled "Versus Zoom," the 18th episode of the show. Sears, who plays Hunter Zolomon, confirms in an interview that Zoom is truly in love.
Sears tells Entertainment Weekly, "Absolutely. That's something that [executive producer] Andrew Kreisberg, from the beginning, wanted to hammer into me."

He says that the next episode will enlighten fans on Hunter Zolomon's origin story and how it closely resembles Barry Allen's own. The actor shares that what happened to Allen as a child echoes what Hunter experienced. And an "under-layer" in latter's past will figure greatly in the "why" of his feelings for Caitlin.
He talks about the character he plays during the interview, "He essentially is one gigantic liar who has played them all, but he never played her. There are real feelings there."
Some good that love will do after tricking everyone else into believing him. While Allen readies himself to face his nemesis, at the recent episode airing, it was uncovered that Jay Garrick had lied to the whole Team Flash, pretending to mentor the scarlet speedster when he was in reality none other than Zoom (also known as Hunter Zolomon), and his only intention for getting close had been to steal Flash's speed.
This only highlights the one difference in Allen's and Zoom's stories, which is the path each eventually chose to take to become who they are presently. And whatever his story would reveal, Zoom is bound to show up as the villain he is.
Sears believes the same thing as he opens up about Zoom's character, "He's 100 percent sociopathic, 100 percent obsessed, very much a megalomaniac, someone who is obsessed with his own power. However, there was a really wonderful scene that I did with Grant where that opportunity for the audience to experience an understanding or a pathos for Hunter exists."
It is left to the audience to decide whether Zoom is worth the sympathy after his tale is told.
Sears also teased the Man in the Iron Mask's identity will be revealed in the series finale. He explains that he had not known at first but that filming the season finale episode gave him the answer. The "Masters of Sex" star says he found it a "fun" thing and swears the reveal will be "nice and vague and untouched," as well as "quite satisfying."
