'The Following' Season 2 Spoilers: Joe's Holy War Ends in Bloody Battle, Who Will Live to See Finale?
"The Following" fans are on the edge of their seats following last week's epic battle between Claire and Emma, but this week is sure to be even more exciting.
The semi-finale entitled "Forgive" will pick up where last week's show ended. While Claire was able to defeat Emma in a vicious confrontatation, she must now muster up what strength she has left to fend Mark and Luke off. The twin brothers are especially dangerous after the death of their mother, Lily.
Furthermore, Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and his partner Mike are in the thick of a war with Joe who has taken hostage of a church in the second-to-last episode of the season. The televangelist that Joe has been obsessed with sacrificed himself in order to save his son from Joe's wrath. Tensions rose even higher after Joe finds Ryan and Mike in the church and takes Mike hostage. The episode ended with a gunshot and Joe pointing a gun at Mike before the screen went black.
Fortunately for "The Following" fans, James Purefoy (Joe) opened up about the season closer. Although multiple versions of the season finale were taped and that the actors do not know which version with air next week, Purefoy discussed the season two conclusion with TVLine this week. The actor confirmed that Joe and Ryan team up in order to protect Claire from Luke.
"There's an element of 'Your enemy's enemy becomes your friend," Purefoy explained. "If Ryan needs to rescue the woman he loves from two equally appalling serial killers, then, hey- who's to say you shouldn't team up with somebody who might know a thing or two about serial killers?"
Moreover, Purefoy commented on the obvious rapport between Ryan and Joe despite their rivalry and pointed to a possible storyline for a third season of "The Following."
"If the writers were looking for a thread to play in season three ... I certainly wouldn't be averse to, every now and then, [Joe and Ryan] teaming up together ... IF they both survive the end of the season," the actor teased.
