The Following Season 2 Spoilers: Mike Weston Devastated at Father's Death, Shawn Ashmore Offers Clues (VIDEO)

"The Following" season two has swept ratings for Fox this year, and fans continue to tune in to Ryan Hardy's battle against a villainous cult.

A star on the show, Shawn Ashmore, recently opened up about his character Mike Weston. The actor stars alongside Kevin Bacon on the thrilling dramatic television series where his character's father was gruesomely killed. Ashmore compared the death of Mike's father to the death of Claire during season one.

"Mike, even from the very first episode, has sort of been in transition," the actor explained to TV Guide. "It's one big arc … When Weston's dad is killed in front of him is very similar to Ryan losing Claire. It's certainly on that scale."

Ashmore went on to describe the significance of the death on "The Following."

"I think it's sort of the final straw that makes these guys even emotionally," he said. "If we were keeping tallies of what's happened to these guys, how much they've lost and how much pain they've gone through. Ryan watched Claire being killed right in front of him, and now Weston sees his dad killed right in front of his eyes."

Additionally, during a previous interview, Ashmore offered an ominous prediction for what the rest of season two has in store for his character.

"Despite what Mike has gone through, in prior seasons and episodes, the last moments of [the episode "Sacrifice"] will push him to the edge in a way that most people couldn't even fathom," he said, according to Zap2It.

"The Following" airs on FOX Monday nights at 9 p.m. EST.
