'The Fosters' Season 4B Release Date, Plot Spoilers & Updates: Jesus Won't Die But Fans Still Have Reasons to Worry – Will Freeform Family Drama See Lena & Stef Losing a Child?
The intense and chaotic summer finale of "The Fosters" Season 4 made avid viewers to get hyper-worried about the fate of Jesus (Noah Centineo). Will Lena (Sherri Saum) and Stef (Teri Polo) lose a child when the Freeform family drama returns next year?
Jesus is in Great Danger
The final scenes of the midseason ender "Collateral Damage" showed Jesus collapsing after Nick (Louis Hunter) punched him in the face. Nick's fist landed squarely on the forehead of Jesus who is at a high risk for seizures due to a traumatic head injury.
Executive producer Peter Paige told TVLine that almost all of the Adams-Foster kids are in jeopardy after the intense finale, but he is more worried about Jesus. He said that the character was re-traumatized in a life-changing way.
Paige revealed that they considered killing Jesus after Jake T. Austin, the first actor who played the character in the pilot and sophomore seasons, left the show. He added that they dismissed the idea because they cannot bear watching the series with the Adams-Foster family dealing an awful subject matter.
What Will Happen to Jesus?
In an interview with TV Guide, Paige said that Jesus will not say goodbye in the remaining 10 episodes of the fourth season. However, he teased that the character will undergo a major transformation.
Paige hinted that the upcoming episode will see Jesus being haunted by his past actions. The executive producer stressed that Jesus successfully escaped the major consequences when he accidentally shot a nail on his forehead early in the season. He added that the character will not avoid those consequences on the second time around.
Episode 10 Cliffhangers
Aside from Jesus, "Collateral Damage" left with life-changing cliffhangers for Callie (Maia Mitchell), Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Brandon (David Lambert). Episode 10 ended with Callie trapped in a car with the possible true murderer of Mrs. Johnson.
The midseason finale also featured Mariana suffering the consequences of her addiction. It also revealed that Brandon's dreams of Julliard crumbled after the discovery of his SAT cheating scandal.
Despite the riveting and heartbreaking summer finale, Paige revealed to EW that there is hope for the troubled Adams-Foster family. He said that the characters are smart, resilient and resourceful, and the future episodes will see them turning around the difficult situations.
The return date of the second half of "The Fosters" Season 4 is still uncertain. Premiere Date projected that it will be broadcast in early January just like its previous seasons.
