"Collateral Damage," the summer finale of "The Fosters" Season 4, was jam-packed with life-changing cliffhangers for almost every member of the Adams-Foster family. The Freeform drama series left with Stef (Teri Polo) and Lena (Sherri Saum) staging a fake divorce to save their home. Will the divorce story end up with an ugly breakup?
Challenges & Complications
In an interview with EW, Peter Paige, executive producer of the LGBT-themed drama, hinted that Stef and Lena's fake divorce could bring more challenges and complications. However, he reassured that the staged divorce will not break the couple apart.
According to Paige, fans should not worry because the moms of the Adams-Foster family are still very much in love. He said that Stef and Lena have been facing some fundamental problems throughout the season, but it is only normal in every relationship.
Moreover, Paige also told TV Guide that the couple would often clash because of their differences by nature and definition. He said that Lena is a considered person while Stef is an impulsive individual. He stressed that their differences will constantly challenge their relationship but they will stay in love against all odds.
Not Renewed for Season 5?
The Season 4B of "The Fosters" will premiere in early 2017 but there is no official date yet. As early as now, fans are already wondering if the hit family drama will return for its Season 5.
Per Premiere Date, Freeform is yet to renew "The Fosters" for its fifth installment. The website predicted that the renewal of the television series is almost a sure thing because of its massive appeal to adults and teenagers. It also added that the series received mostly good reviews for its innovative storyline.
Declining Ratings
The hit series may face cancellation if ratings are an indication. The show suffered dip in ratings since Season 4 premiered.
According to TV Series Finale, the 10 episodes of the fourth season engaged an average of 891,000 viewers. This is a big decline from the Season 3's one million viewers.
The first episode of Season 4 had 907,000 viewers, a lower number of audience compared to the pilot episode of Season 3 that attracted 1.261 million viewers. Moreover, the summer finale of the fourth season on Monday got 989,000 viewers, while the midseason ender of the third installment attracted 1.246 million viewers.
"The Fosters" started airing in June of 2013. The television drama series received praises and awards for its unique portrayal of a lesbian couple raising a multi-ethnic mix of biological, adopted and foster kids.
