'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' Trailer Launches (VIDEO)
The extended trailer for David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” has been launched and is now available online for viewing.
The remake of the Swedish movie, based on the international best-selling trilogy by Stieg Larsson, has been long anticipated.
The four-minute trailer gives a brief look at the dark, compelling story of Lisbeth Salander who is surrounded by murder, sexual assault, and torture. It has been speculated that the American version of the film will not contain as much violence.
Daniel Craig, best known for being “James Bond,” plays Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist turned detective who teams up with Lisbeth, played by “The Social Network’s” Rooney Mara.
Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson became a posthumous best-selling writer for his “Millennium Series.” At his death in November of 2004, the author left behind three books that made up the trilogy: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.”
Larsson witnessed the gang rape of a young girl when he was 15-years-old, and never forgave himself for not intervening. The character in the series, Lisbeth, is named after the rape victim.
The first book was published in Sweden in 2005 entitled “Man som hatar kvinnor” meaning “Men who hate women” in English, and was awarded the Glass Key best Nordic crime novel that year.
The two remaining novels in the series were published in 2006 and 2010 and added to the author’s international fame.
The American version of the film is set to music composed by Trent Reznor.
Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” will hit theaters on December 21.
