"The end of the book was really frustrating," he told TV Guide on the red carpet. "When I read it, I was really frustrated, so it's nice to kind of answer some of those questions and go on. Lizzie was surprised where we went, so that's a good sign," the writer went on to say.

Lizzie, or Elisabeth Moss, plays Offred, a woman who was forced into working as a Handmaid, since she is still able to bear children, during the early years of the authoritarian regime that was the Republic of Gilead.

Considering how dark and disturbing "The Handmaid's Tale" season 1 was for this particular character, fans can look forward to even more twists and turns that Offred will face in season 2.

Meanwhile, "The Handmaid's Tale" actress Ann Dowd, who plays Aunt Lydia in the series, recently gave out a few details about what the fans could expect in the upcoming season.

"I can say that it's fierce," Dowd teased during an interview with Popsugar at the BAFTA TV Tea Party over the weekend. "It's terrifying. And it's hopeful," she added.

The first season of the show made a statement about women's rights. When asked about what the important message that the sophomore season will try to convey to its viewers, the actress revealed that it is going to be about paying attention.

She continued, "Stay alert. Step up. Don't defer. Don't rely on someone else to do the work for you. It's the small steps that add up to the big steps that add up to repression that add up to Gilead. So pay attention."

Dowd recently received two awards for her role in "The Handmaid's Tale." During this year's Emmy's she won Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

"The Handmaid's Tale" season 2 premieres next year on Hulu.
