'The Hobbit' Trilogy Extended Version Hitting Theaters on October (VIDEO)

Warner Bros. is scheduling extended versions of "The Hobbit" trilogy to return to US theaters in October, releasing a special trailer for the purpose.

Audiences will be treated to nine hours' worth of all three "The Hobbit" films after Warner Bros. Pictures and Fathom Events announced they would be releasing the extended versions of the trilogy in select US theaters.

Director Peter Jackson's extended versions of the films will take place over a three-night event, with "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" scheduled for October 5, "The Desolation of Smaug" on October 7 and "The Battle of the Five Armies" on October 13.

The screenings will take place in 500 movie theaters across the country, with a schedule of movie times posted on the Fathom Events website.

The screenings will also be the first time the audience gets to see the extended versions of the trilogy in movie theaters, which will also be the first time "The Battle of the Five Armies" extended film will be shown anywhere.

The extended version of "Five Armies" is rumored to have received an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association of America for "some violence." The third film in the trilogy is due to arrive on Blu-Ray and DVD by November 17.

Each of the screenings will include an introduction from Peter Jackson, who also co-wrote and produced the trilogy.

As each film had mixed reviews when they first hit theaters, the movie event's organizers will be unable to determine how big an audience they will have when the movies begin their run. According to their webpage, the trilogy screenings will be a way for fans to "binge-watch" "The Hobbit" trilogy as a community.

Tickets for each movie in the trilogy will be sold separately. However, Fathom Events has an option for moviegoers to purchase a pass for all three of the films
