'The Incredibles 2' Movie News: Director Brad Bird Works Hard to Meet Expectations of 'The Incredibles' Fans
Unlike "Finding Nemo" that never promised of a sequel in its last scenes, the closing frame of Pixar's "The Incredibles" is a clear indication that the movie would have a sequel. And, true enough, after years of waiting, the "The Incredibles 2" is finally heading to the theaters come June 2019.
"Well, look, it was in the movie from the first one… there was a big promise at the back end of the movie. 'Here we go. They're now a family of superheroes,'" said Andrew Stanton, director of the upcoming Disney and Pixar animation "Finding Dory" and also a member of Pixar's Brain Trust.
According to producer Lindsey Collins, "The Incredibles 2" director Brad Bird is well aware of the excitement people has for "The Incredibles" sequel, feeling the pressure to make sure to deliver a product that will meet the people's expectations.
Collins also drew a comparison between "The Incredibles 2" and "Finding Dory" in terms of public anticipation, citing the latter as an example for dealing with the public excitement. According to Collins, the first five minutes should focus on refreshing the memories of the viewers of the characters that they haves missed.
"… And I think that is where you want to start from. How do I tell a story where in the first five minutes, you have people leaning forward and being like, "I'm so happy that I'm back in this!" And I think if you wait long enough I think you get some of that out of sheer frustration and anticipation," Collins shared.
"The Incredibles" hit the theaters back in 2004. The animated movie follows the superhero life of Bob Parr, aka Mr. Incredible, who falls in love with another superhero, Helen, aka Elastigirl. After the two retreat from the public eyes as superheroes, they are handed a situation that forces them to wear their crime-busting suits once more, now with their superhero children in tow.
The movie earned more than $600 million worldwide and won the Oscars' Best Animated Film Feature award in 2005.
