'The Knick' Season 3 News: Script Ordered For Season 3 Premiere

The second season of Cinemax and Steven Soderbergh's "The Knick" ended on a cliffhanger, with Dr. John Thackery (Clive Owen) appearing to have died on the table after attempting a complicated surgery on himself. In an interview with Variety about the season finale, Owen was asked if that was the last that fans will see of him as Dr. Thackery. The 51-year-old English actor answered, "It certainly looks that way."

But does the end of Dr. Thackery mean the end of the show as well?

Although no official announcement regarding a new season has been made, Cinemax and the show's producers are said to be considering a Season 3 of "The Knick" and that deals are being drawn up for it. Sources tell Variety that Cinemax has ordered a season premiere script and a season outline, which could mean that the network is considering a future for the series, perhaps trying to decide if the story can be continued even with major changes to its plotline and cast.

As Owen told the magazine after the Season 2 finale, "It was always kind of the intention to do a two-season arc." "I signed on for the two seasons, and it was always about trying to map a journey through that factory," he revealed.

According to Variety's sources, no decisions have been made so far about cast members returning for another season.

If things go as planned, "The Knick" co-creators Jack Amiel and Michael Begler will pen the script and executive produce.

"Cinemax has been in conversations with Steven Soderbergh on how we might continue with 'The Knick,'" Cinemax said in a statement. "When first conceived, the series was always meant to be presented in a two-year story arc, and Steven has been meeting with the writers to discuss how to proceed."

Apart from a possible "The Knick" Season 3, director Steven Soderbergh is also set to work on an HBO project, "Mosaic," with Sharon Stone and Garrett Hedlund, and "The Girlfriend Experience," a TV adaptation from Starz.
