'The Last Kingdom' Season 2 News: New Trailer Released
For fans of "The Last Kingdom," next week is the day when the wait is finally over. The second season of the popular historical adaptation premieres on March 16, Thursday, on Netflix.
A shorter, more cinematic trailer has just been released on YouTube last Tuesday, March 6, and it focuses on Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) and his road to becoming the symbol in the middle of the enduring war for the future of the newly forming England. While the new trailer glosses over the plot, it brings the promise of exciting large-scale battle scenes, and what could be a possible romantic interest for the protagonist. The official "The Last Kingdom" website has more of the details.
The new trailer starts with the depths Uthred must climb up from, as a man mistreated and deprived of his family by the factions engaged in the senseless and bloody war. What he said summed up his initial motivation: "They murdered my family, and they must be faced."
While he is counseled time and again that "revenge will not bring you peace, only death," Uthred still chooses a path of bloodshed, cutting down men and armies who oppose his aims. An unseen character says, "Uthred is more than just one man. He is here for a reason," giving tribute to the person who is both a Saxon, a Dane and a man of destiny.
The path to possibly uniting the warring sides will not be a bloodless journey, as Uthred is shown in constant battle in fields, towns, under clear skies and storm, in day or night. He is not one to back down, but neither are his enemies — as more diverse factions are shown doing battle in the war-torn 9th- and 10th-century Britain.
"I could never forget, and I shall never forgive" Uthred declares, his undying resolve for revenge driving him forwards against all odds. Watch the trailer for the second season of "The Last Kingdom" below.
