'The Last Kingdom' Season 2 Release Date Rumors: Uhtred to Lead the Saxon Forces, Reclaim His Fate

"The Last Kingdom" season 2 is set to premiere soon and its first full trailer tells a lot about what fans can expect from the show when it returns this month. In February, BBC Two also released a first-look image from the upcoming season, featuring Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) on a white horse.

In the official trailer for the sophomore season, Uhtred is depicted as the "embodiment" of New England, emerging from the war. In season 2, he will try to bridge the gap between the Saxons and the Danes.

Spoilers for the upcoming season suggest that Uhtred's mission is still to save his people, but he will also try to reclaim his fate. The trailer reveals that Uhtred will fulfill his destiny, but the road will not be easy.

There are speculations that after being able to prove his worth to Alfred in the previous season, Uhtred will be tasked to lead the Saxon forces next season. However, the Saxons will not be happy to learn that their leader was raised as a Dane, their rival group. Because of this, fans can expect to see more battles to ensue in season 2.

Other spoilers also suggest that Uhtred will embark on his voyage to the north to avenge the death of Earl Ragnar, as well as to recapture the lands of Bebbanburg.

"The Last Kingdom" season 2 will feature new characters and will be high on drama. Joining the cast next season are Millie Brady, Peter McDonald and Thure Lindhardt. The new season will also introduce a romantic storyline for Uhtred, who will have some steamy love scenes.

"The Last Kingdom" season 2 arrives on March 16 on Netflix. The streaming giant will stream the series in the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Japan, Australia, Portugal and Italy.
