'The Last Man on Earth' Season 3 Episode 12: Did God Just Save Gail's Life?
It has often been said that God works in mysterious ways. And for all its dark and irreverent humor, "The Last Man on Earth" took a cue from this inspiring quote to bring about the biggest revelation in its most recent episode.
When FOX's post-apocalyptic sitcom drew the curtains on its midseason finale, it left the fate of Gail (Mary Steenburgen), one of the show's core characters, literally hanging on a prayer. In wanting to have some time away from her newly adopted, and overly affectionate daughter, Carol (Kristen Schaal), Gail went into an abandoned building in the complex they now call home and got on an elevator with provisions to last her a week at most fully intent on camping out on the rooftop.
But she was accidentally locked in when Tandy (Phil Forte) and Lewis (Kenneth Choi) turned the electricity off in the said building to ease up on the power load and keep the electricity in the occupied building from short circuiting.
It's had been days, and Gail might've already lost hope along with her life. But just when Lewis' tragic death took everybody's hope away, God came through and gave Tandy an epiphany that might not have worked its wonders the way it's supposed to, but effectively turned the power back on in Gail's building. Does Tandy's artificial rainbow mean hope for Gail's survival? Or did he just set the group up for another unexpected tragedy?
The synopsis for the next episode titled "Hair of the Dog" is keeping mum about Gail's fate as it previews an episode focusing on the emotionally unstable Melissa's (January Jones) pre-virus past. Hoping to gain a deeper understanding of her current condition, Todd (Mel Rodriguez) and Tandy will be digging into Melissa's way of life before the virus outbreak. What discoveries will they uncover? And, if any at all, who will they meet along the way?
Meanwhile, after bearing witness to the unexpectedness of death so many times than a normal person could handle, Carol decides to adopt a new outlook on life.
And while the synopsis does not give up any hints on Gail's survival, the official trailer promises to have its audience on pins and needles with another peek at Gail's finger twitching. Could Gail still be alive? And if she is, will she make it out of the elevator in time before she gets locked in again?
"The Last Man on Earth" season 3 episode 12 airs on Sunday, March 19 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on FOX.
