'The Last of Us 2' Release Date, News: Reports Eye Introduction of New Locations, Characters and Story Arc
There have been very little details revealed about "The Last of Us 2." However, reports continue to speculate on possible changes and additions in terms of locations, characters and story arc for one of the most requested sequels in the gaming world.
International Business Times suggests that one interesting take for the sequel would be to see protagonists Ellie and Joel discover new areas where different dilemmas have to be tackled. It can be recalled that in the first game, the main characters had to deal with the effects of a cordyceps infestation that spread around the world, making people become zombies.
It is also highly possible for "The Last of Us" players to encounter a more vicious kind of enemy, making the sequel even more challenging. There have also been speculations that Ellie and Joel will encounter a new group of survivors, other than the Fireflies, who might want to cause them harm.
According to the same IBT report, it might be a disappointment if developer Naughty Dog decides to focus the game's story solely around Ellie and Joel again as they have had enough of the spotlight in the first game. There are some suggestions that players might see new characters being introduced, whether it be a new protagonist or an enemy.
As for the game's release date, Naughty Dog is still keeping quiet about the game's development timeframe. However, there were reports that suggest 2019 is the most possible time for the game to be released. Meanwhile, there is another interesting fan theory that suggests the game will be released on an April 23 schedule.
"The Last of Us 2" was only confirmed last December 2016 when Naughty Dog premiered its first trailer during the PlayStation Experience event.
In an official statement through Sony's blog, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann said: "I can't tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. ... We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. ... A story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey."
