As of now, the third season of "The Last Ship" is still in the early stages of production. But a few hints of what to expect in the upcoming season were divulged by showrunners Steve Kane and Hank Steinberg during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Kane revealed that season 3 will pick up from the last season's events including the part of handling a newly-reformed America. "That's the idea, that season three will be about moving forward, now attending to the task of rebuilding America and putting the world back in order," he said.

Steinberg also stated that they plan to widen the scope of the show even more as they bring the characters of the story into the wider world.

"The Last Ship" season 3 is scheduled to return in summer 2016 at TNT with 13 episodes.
