'The Last Ship' Season 5 Spoilers: Could Vellek Still Be Alive?
Vellek (Peter Weller) may still be living and waiting to get revenge on Chandler (Eric Dane) and the others in the next season of "The Last Ship."
Fans of the series cannot help but wonder if the mad scientist indeed died after he jumped off from the bridge of his ship last finale. When Vellek realized he was cornered, he tried to torch his research and commit suicide. The last time he was on screen, he got swallowed by the seething water, never to be seen again. Still, there are speculations saying that Vellek may be alive and that he will return in season 5 to continue his quest for world power.
The new installment is expected to see a huge shift in favor of the Americans. Finally, the threat to mankind has been eliminated, and the world is facing a future full of hope. Soon, the USS Nathan James will not be the only one patrolling the seas to protect the innocent. The trailer released for season 5 shows the Navy finally taking a well-deserved sigh of relief after everything it has been through. The celebration is short-lived, though.
Chandler and the other soon realize that a Latin American mobster is targeting them. The man is considered a savior of his people, and he has his own army to control as he wishes. The first move he has planned for the Americans is a cyber attack on their satellite. Afterwards, fighter jets are sent to scare off the survivors. Chandler and Slattery (Adam Baldwin) both look dazed by the viciousness of the assault.
Elsewhere, Sasha (Bridget Regan) is shown meeting with the Latino leader. She reminds him that leading a revolution is dangerous. He retaliates by emphasizing the unfairness of it all, that when Latin Americans make a move to better themselves, they are called revolutionaries. Sasha only smiles after hearing the man's litany.
On a different note, Deadline reports that the upcoming season may be the last for the TNT series. Previously, the network explained that it was the general plan.
"We shot two seasons simultaneously, the fourth is currently on the air and the fifth will return next summer. We greenlit the fifth with the idea that it could be the final season, however it's far too early to make that determination," TNT's statement reads.
"The Last Ship" season 5 is expected to air next year on TNT.
