'The Last Ship' Season 5 Spoilers: Navy Sends Sasha to South America for a Dangerous Mission
Sasha (Bridget Regan) is set to lead an important mission for the US Navy in the next season of "The Last Ship."
Spoilers for the new installment reveal that the next big villain that Chandler (Eric Dane) and the squad will face will be a Latin American mobster. After being saved from the Red Rust, the survivors will definitely need time to move forward and regroup.
In an interview with TVLine, Regan said that just like the previous season, there would be a time jump. The new storyline will reportedly not dwell on the difficult process of rehabilitation anymore. When the new installment arrives, viewers will get to see the Americans facing another challenge.
"In Season 5 we again jump ahead quite a lot in time, as we did for Season 4, which I liked. It shows that the writers are only showing you the really exciting stuff that's happening in that world. The actual nuts and bolts of spreading the new healthy crop, feeding people... we skip ahead past that until we come up against our next big challenge," Regan said.
The trailer for season 5 shows the kind of enemy the Navy will encounter. A powerful leader representing the Latinos will emerge, and he is ready to show the Americans that his nation will take over the world. The mobster is revealed to be training an army of his own, composed of fanatics who believe in the cause.
The group's first attack will come in the form of a cyber assault targeting the American satellite. Soon after, fighter jets will drop bombs in a public Navy gathering. Chandler is shown informing the higher ups that everything is a calculated attack by one enemy.
The promo also shows Sasha attending a party hosted by the said Latino leader. She is presumably sent to South America to gather intel for the Navy. She informs the man that he is starting a revolution. He then scoffs and questions her objectivity. He chides that the Americans are quick to show their bias over the actions of the Latino community. Sasha can only smile at his outburst.
"The Last Ship" season 5 is expected to air next year on TNT.
