'The Leftovers' Season 2: A Lighter, Fresher Start Expected (VIDEO)

"The Leftovers" will be starting a new season this Sunday and the show is expected to begin Season 2 with a fresher, more lighthearted take on the Sudden Departure.

HBO's apocalyptic drama, "The Leftovers," will be returning for Season 2 and audiences can expect a different approach to the show when its second season premiere, "Axis Mundi" airs on Sunday.

Audiences will see the Garveys making a fresh start in Season 2, and the show's new opening credits show a more lighthearted tone, as country and folk singer Iris DeMent's cheery lyrics of "Let the Mystery Be" play in the background.

From a darker Season 1, which was set three years following the sudden and mysterious disappearance of two percent of the world's population, Season 2 will actually show some outdoorsy fun, with the only dark remnants of the previous season seen towards the end of the opening credits.

The survivors of the Great Departure are shown doing everyday activities like bathing, sleeping, and camping, but beside them are outlines of other people, perhaps family or friends, who have mysteriously disappeared from their lives.

The outdoors theme showing people enjoying themselves may point out towards a new optimistic second season, especially with retired police officer Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux) and his family moving to Miracle, Texas, which appears to be relatively unscarred by the Rapture incident that plagued their old hometown of Mapleton.

While Season 2 appears no closer to answering the questions behind the Sudden Departure, it shows the mysterious event from another perspective, that of the Garvey's new neighbors.

Audiences will have to stay tuned to see if the rest of Season 2 will finally solve the mystery left unanswered in Season 1 when Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley and Carrie Coon return in "The Leftovers" on Sunday, October 4 at 9pm on HBO.
