The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds Praised for Innovative Gameplay and Nostalgic Feel

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was released today for the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, and features many new gameplay modes within the game that will make this entry into the series standout.

The game introduces a more of an open world feel to it and does not necessarily have to be played in any sort of order as missions are accomplished in whatever way the gamer chooses to go.

Kotaku's review suggests that while exploring the world, do not leave one stone unturned. "There are secrets hidden everywhere," whether it be treasure, items, or rupees. Also found items will significantly help out for later areas in the game.

A Link Between Worlds pays homage to the "part one" of this game, A Link to the Past, which was on Super Nintendo in 1991. Much of the game play, enemies, and scenery is the same.

One of the bigger added features is the Wall Merging feature which gives main character Link the ability to flatten himself against a wall like a moving hieroglyph. He will also have a meter that controls how long this feature will be enabled. Once the meter runs out, Link will pop off the wall. See a picture of Link merged with the wall here.

The game is available in two different bundles: one in the U.K. and one in the U.S.

The bundle for the U.S. may be paired with the 3DS XL, according to a Black Friday leaked flyer for GameStop. The bundle will go for $219.99. Polygon said GameStop confirmed to them that the leak was true.

In the U.K. the bundle will include a physical copy of the game, a musical cartridge chest, a poster, and a digital download of the game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. The promotion is through the U.K. company, GAME, and it goes for £49.99.

"Please Note: Once you place your preorder for the Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Collector's Edition you will be sent your download code for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX," it said on their site. "As such, once the order is confirmed and you have received your eShop code, you will be unable to cancel your preorder for this item."

The game is available for $39.99.
