'The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword' Release Date: New Game a Hit With Reviewers (VIDEO)

"The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" review scores surfaced ahead of the game's official release.

Game Informer’s Phil Kollar enjoyed the game's story: "The biggest surprise in Skyward Sword is the story. For all the different shapes it has taken, the plot of The Legend of Zelda has always been a fairly predictable affair that feels like an afterthought."

"Skyward Sword doesn’t elevate the art of video game storytelling, but it is a major step up for the franchise, with clever writing, an interesting (if strange) new villain, and a wide cast of characters that would feel at home in one of Disney’s better animated movies,” Kollar added.

EscapistMagazine’s Susan Arendt spoke about the game's explorable areas: "If you need a break from the surface, there's plenty to do around Skyloft. There are treasure chests to track down and minigames to find, neighbors to help and a batguy who wants to turn into a human."

"Even just flying around on your Loftwing - the giant birds used to navigate the clouds - is a lot of fun as you master the technique of flapping, climbing, and diving to gather speed,” Arendt added.

IGN’s Richard George mentioned the game's musical score: "Some of the themes in Skyward Sword stand alongside Zelda's best, utilizing orchestral music for the first time in the franchise's history."

Wired’s Chris Kohler also offered a statement: "Skyward Sword shows that ‘a real Zelda game’ is about more than certain items or certain gameplay rituals, which in the end is more meaningful than adding better sword controls."

"The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" will be released Nov. 20.

The publisher and developer for the game is Nintendo. It is only playable on the Nintendo Wii home console.

IGN posted a video review of the game:
